If you build it, they will come and despite the distance twenty years ago, the 1st Annual Carefree Fine Art & Wine Festival was an instant success with people coming from all over the valley.

Twenty years later driving to Carefree is faster with Loop 101, the landscape has changed tremendously until drivers approach the outskirts of Carefree and are surrounded by the Sonoran desert with large boulders, towering saguaros and elegant mountain views. It is this place where they are reminded of the tranquility and beauty of the desert.

The one thing that hasnt changed is the fine art arena created by the award-winning producer, Thunderbird Artists. The Town of Carefree closes their streets to welcome 165 talented artists, musicians and wineries with their Carefree style hospitality. Their slogan is Home of Cowboys & Caviar, Where the Old West Meets the New. Patrons love meeting the artists and enjoy spectacular paintings, unique scratchboard, lovely batiks, sparkling glass, stone and handsome metal, copper, and clay and mixed media sculptures.  There is also medium to life-sized bronzes, mixed media sculptures, along with photography, jewelry and much more.

Another thing that hasnt changed is the welcome experienced by people who visit the Town of Carefree, whether it is from the local boutiques, specialty shops, galleries, restaurants and outdoor cafes or business services. All who visit the Town of Carefree are treated as special guests.

Juried artists travel from around the country and the state of Arizona. There will be an excess of 3,000+ pieces of fine art displayed in mediums such as oil on canvas, watercolors, acrylics and mixed media paintings. Furthermore, an extensive selection of unique jewelry, photography and pottery, as well as bronze, copper, clay, glass, metal and wood sculptures will be exhibited. Patrons will have the opportunity to meet and converse with the artists during all three days of this event.

This celebration highlights an extensive collection of fine wines both domestic and imported. Learning how to sample wines is an uncomplicated experience that will enhance the appreciation for both wines and winemakers. Starting with the basic senses (look, smell & taste) the expansive wine list allows patrons the opportunity to learn how to taste wines like the pros! Patrons can smell thousands of unique scents, but their taste perception is limited to salty, sweet, sour and bitter. It is the combination of smell with tasting that allows patrons to distinguish between the different flavors. Sampling a good collection of wines all at the same time permits patrons the opportunity to make better choices. For $ 10, patrons receive an engraved souvenir wine glass and six wine tasting tickets.

Strolling throughout the supreme gathering of artists, sampling good wines and listening to musical entertainment is what Thunderbird Artists is best recognized for – along with their fine reputation.

The invitation to return to the City of Surprise was an opportunity we couldnt pass up. After producing numerous festivals in cities such as Carefree, Fountain Hills and Scottsdale, were excited to bring another unique experience of a Thunderbird Artists festival to the West Valley – and the rapidly growing community of Surprise, said Denise Dale, Vice President of Thunderbird Artists. Admission into the festival is $ 5.00 per person. In addition Thunderbird Artists is donating $ 1.00 from every admission ticket (from all festivals) to the American Healing Arts Foundation (AHAF), a 501c3 non-profit organization for veterans. AHAF is about healing through the arts, and art therapy, offering veterans free art classes. Post-traumatic stress disorder remains high for both wounded and uninjured soldiers plus the suicide and divorce rate continues to soar. Art is proven to be a great form of therapy for victims. AHAF classes are intended to reunite veterans with their fellow vets, away from hospitals and the battlefield, in a peaceful environment.
