Cherokee Nation Industries is furthering its relationship with industry leader Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. The tribal enterprise was recently honored as a 2013 Sikorsky Gold Supplier and awarded a $ 5.1 million contract to provide frame and instrument panel assembly for the S-300C helicopter.

Aerospace and defense manufacturing is a core industry in Oklahoma and our business portfolio, said Principal Chief Bill John Baker. The Cherokee Nation plays a vital role in this industry and is proud to have earned a new multimillion dollar contract with Sikorsky. This new contract creates more jobs in an advanced, high-tech industry.

Baker said the Gold Supplier certification reflects the commitment to quality we have established in our advanced manufacturing efforts at CNI.

The S-300C is known as one of the finest and most versatile piston engine rotorcrafts. Its maneuverability, responsive handling, range and endurance make it ideal for personal transportation, military and civil training, aerial photography, law enforcement patrol and more.

The 18-month contract allocates $ 4 million for the production of 84 instrument panels that integrates all flight instruments, with the exception of customer-specified radios. CNI will also provide frame assembly for 74 aircrafts, adding $ 1.1 million to the contract.

Zum LLC, a 3D rendering company with offices in San Francisco and New York, recently completed the first phase of a project that could create the largest office space development in the Bay Area.

The company was hired by Shorenstein, a real estate development firm with properties throughout the country to help create images for the developing Oyster Point Business Park project. The project, which would be built on a site in South San Francisco, would be more than 2.5 million square feet total, which would make it the largest office space in the area.

South San Francisco is known as the Birthplace of Biotechnology and is home to some of the worlds leading biotechnology companies. Biotech has grown steadily in South San Francisco with over 72 biotech firms in a 2-square-mile industrial zone including Genentech, Elan Pharmaceuticals, Amgen, Cell Genesys, Theravance, Cytokinetics, and Rigel. Also in the area are numerous hotels, restaurants, eateries, consumer and business services.

ZUM recently completed all of the 3D architectural renderings for the project, including interior, exterior and aerial designs. These renderings will be shown to potential architects, investors and tenants. Through aerial photography and static images, the team at Zum was able to showcase the full scope of the project, and envision its potential, both inside and out.

We were given a relatively blank canvas to work with, which meant that we were really able to use our creativity on this project, says Zum co-founder Michael Semmen. Were hoping that area companies use our images to see the potential of this site, and decide to move their businesses and office space.

Creating these 3D models has also helped Shorenstein cut costs at this phase of the project. As the project continues, the developers will be able to reuse these models for a variety of purposes.

Although only in the initial stages of development, the Oyster Point Business Park project has the potential to revolutionize the South San Francisco area.

It could be a real game changer for the area, says Wendy Cohn, co-founder of Zum. South San Francisco is still a developing area, and to have an office space of this magnitude in the area would be huge.

Five Chinese 20th century paintings by Qi Bashi sold at Kaminski Auctions March Fine Asian Art and Antique Sale for a record $ 2.3 million dollars to break all records for the artist. All five paintings were 20th century scroll paintings of ink and color on paper, signed and sealed Qi Bashi and dedicated by the artist to “Yu San “,Wen Tsan Yu with the collector’s personal seal.

Wen Tsan Yu was raised in China and later became a professor at Peking University. He graduated from the University of Chicago in 1916 with a Ph.B, and from Harvard University in 1919 with a LL.B. The family’s maternal great grandfather was Moy Toy Ni, (Charlie Toy) who came to the United States in the late 1800s and settled in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was widely known as Chinese Rockefeller in the early 20th century. Paintings in this collection had been in the family for over 50 years.

Chinese porcelain from the family’s collection also brought top prices including a pair of Famille Verte bowls decorated with floral roundels, marked on the base in a double ring that sold for $ 300,000 and a Chinese Famille Rose vase from the Republic Period of baluster form and painted with a continuous landscape scene with a calligraphy mark on the base that sold for $ 220,000.

The booming Chinese art market fueled bidding from all over the United States, Hong Kong and China for this Chinese scholar’s rare collection.
