Yokohama, Japan (PRWEB) February 01, 2013
The Camera & Imaging Products Association (CIPA) commenced its CP+2013 Camera & Photo Imaging Show, a comprehensive camera and photo imaging show, on January 31st in Yokohama, Japan. The event will be held for four days until February 3rd, 2013. More new products are introduced at CP+ than at any other imaging trade show in the world, and imaging technology is considered one of Japans last manufacturing strongholds. With the theme, Connecting The World, Expanding the Limits of Photo Imaging, the 2013 event calls attention to the powers of photography through four days of product and photo exhibitions and a wide range of events that showcase the joys of shooting, viewing, and connecting pictures via new media such as internet and various devices, with people. The features of CP+ 2013 Camera & Photo Imaging Show include:
30th anniversary celebration of Camera Grand Prix
Camera Grand Prix, one of Japans most famous photo contests, is commemorating its 30th anniversary this year. To celebrate this anniversary, Camera Grand Prix is hosting Camera Progress over 30 Years of the Grand Prix, where former judges discuss the history of the Grand Prix and exhibit former Grand Prix winning photos.
New trend in single-lens camera video shooting
Many exhibitors will highlight single-lens cameras with high precision lenses that take beautiful videos enhanced by focus and de-blurring features, which are not even available on conventional video cameras.
Exhibition of digital cameras with increasing range of functions
High definition movie function, OS installed, color variation for female users, and high-end compact cameras are just some of the industry advances that will be on display at CP+.
Collaboration with the Photo Yokohama event and Yokohama Museum of Art
CP+2013 is working with Photo Yokohama, the photo event movement organized by Yokohama City, and one of its exhibitions, Two Photographers: Robert Capa / Gerda Taro Retrospective, which is currently on display at the Yokohama Museum of Art.
Showcasing the photography world’s newest events
CP+2013 is holding various new and unique events such as ONAEBA SPACE, a large scale photography exhibition with approximately 200 participating photographers; PHOTOGRAPHERS SUMMIT, an experimental live photo show that offers attendees the opportunity to experience various state-of-the-art photographic expressions including slide shows, portfolios and unique art books; and OPEN SHOW CP+2013, an international photo slide show event held in 26 cities across 17 countries simultaneously.
Additionally, CP+2013 is holding various seminars for the first time including Video Seminar for Professionals, aimed at teaching professionals about the production process and philosophy, and the Japan Advertisement Photographers Association (APA) seminar, which provides actual production case studies from professionals viewpoints.
CP+ has over 50 years of history (it began as the Japan Camera Show) and is now recognized as one of the three largest camera exhibitions in the world, along with photokina in Germany and PMA@CES in the USA. Approximately 80% of the worlds camera and photo imaging technology and innovation is dominated by Japanese manufacturers, and its market share is sustained by the high quality and sophistication of Japanese optical techniques and electronics. Taking advantage of Japans position at the center of the photo and imaging industry, CP+ acts as a launch pad for presenting the world with the latest technology in the industry, from the initial input of data to its final output.

Santa Fe, NM (PRWEB) January 15, 2013
Santa Fe University of Art and Design (SFUAD) announced that it will host the traveling exhibition Al-Mutanabbi Street Starts Here in the Fine Arts Gallery on campus from Feb. 8 through March 22. The exhibition will serve as a special event within the universitys 20122013 Artists for Positive Social Change series, the theme of which is art and political activism.
Framed around the sixth anniversary of the al-Mutanabbi Street car bombing in Baghdad, Iraq, the exhibition presents artists books that speak to the theme of intellectual freedom and the resilient human spirit. Al-Mutanabbi Streetlocated in the historic center of Baghdad and known as the heart of the citys literary and intellectual communitywas the site of a car bomb explosion in 2007 that killed more than 30 people, wounded over 100, and destroyed countless priceless books.
The exhibition, which launched in 2012 and has already traveled to London, Los Angeles and Detroit, involves three book artists from Santa FeLauren Camp, Suzanne Vilmain and SFUAD Art Department contributing faculty member Donna Ruff. The Santa Fe exhibition will be the only stop in New Mexico.
San Francisco poet and bookseller Beau Beausoleil founded the Al-Mutanabbi Street Coalition, the group of artists and writers that created the exhibition. He said the Coalitions goal is to show the Iraqi cultural community that the world will not be silent to all they have suffered, and that through a collective effort, some of the books lost in the explosion can be artistically recreated. A total of between 50 and 100 books will be on rotation at the SFUAD gallery; visitors are encouraged to return to the exhibit throughout the duration of the installation.
The project will help those who attend its exhibits and readings to see themselves on al-Mutanabbi Street and to realize that we share a commonality with the Iraqi cultural community, said Beausoleil. The Al-Mutanabbi Street Coalition is not an anti-war project, nor is it a healing project. It is an attempt to have people see the bombing of al-Mutanabbi Streetand all its underpinningsand not turn away. This street is not the resting place of this project, but rather the starting point for a cultural dialogue that recognizes the commonality of this street with any street that holds a bookstore or cultural institution, a street that intersects with so many similar streets within our own country and the world at large.
Events connected with the exhibition will begin Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. with special screenings of Iraqi films at Tipton Hall on campus. On Feb. 7 at 6 p.m., Beausoleil and the Santa Fe artists Vilmain and Ruff will participate in a panel discussion in Tipton Hall. On Friday, Feb. 8, the exhibitions opening reception will run from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Fine Arts Gallery.
An anthology edited by Beausoleil and Deema Shehabi called Al-Mutanabbi Street Starts Here(PM Press, 2012) will be available for purchase during the opening. Beausoleil is author of nine books of poetry, including Concealed in Language (Night Crane Press, 2003). Shehabi is author of Thirteen Departures from the Moon (Press 53, 2011); her work has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize four times.
“In addition to bringing this remarkable experienceand I use that word advisedly because this is much more than an exhibitionto the Santa Fe community, our students will have a very intimate interface with the work through Donna Ruff’s spring semester book arts class, said Linda Swanson, chair of the universitys Art Department. This is the kind of expansive curriculum that challenges and connects students to their individual practices and the world.

Other events within this years Artists for Positive Social Change series have included a multimedia presentation by arts supporter and musician Tom Maguire called Barbarians at the GateStravinsky, Diaghilev & the Ballets Russes and a simulcast of New Yorks Creative Time Summit on Confronting Inequity.

Santa Fe, NM (PRWEB) January 5, 2009
Verve Gallery of Photography Presents:
LAURIE ARCHER & MARTHA CASANAVE
Opening Reception: Friday, January 23, 2009, 5-7pm
Exhibit is on view through Saturday, March 14, 2009
Gallery Talk with Laurie Archer:
Saturday, January 24, 2-3pm
Verve Gallery of Photography is pleased to present a two-person exhibition of lensless photography by Santa Fe artist Laurie Archer working in the solar plate etching process and California artist, Martha Casanave, working in pinhole photography. There will be an Opening Reception on Friday, January 23, 2009 from 5-7pm and a Gallery Talk with Laurie Archer on Saturday, January 24, from 2-3pm. The exhibition is on view through Saturday, March 14, 2009.
LAURIE ARCHER
Laurie Archer will be exhibiting work from her series in the solar plate etching process. Ms. Archer’s solar plate etchings are stories about objects of everyday life, including kitchen utensils, botanicals, sewing materials and hardware. She finds these objects to be the intersection of dreams, memories and reality and is intrigued by their simplicity. The prints that result from these objects are part of Laurie’s story, her narrative of life.
“Starting from childhood, my artwork has been about the physical and spiritual world that I inhabit. Everyday objects are as close friends: flowers, tools, crayons, and etching plate trimmings. Choosing to pay attention to the things of daily life requires being aware of our surroundings, as much as is possible. Daydreaming is an all-important component of being in the moment in the realm of the imagination. I strive for simplicity in an otherwise overloaded world.”
Solar plate is a light sensitized steel backed polymer material used by artists as an alternative to hazardous printing techniques such as traditional etching and relief printing. Laurie makes a transparency which is placed on the solar plate and exposed directly in the sun, or in the case of bad weather, she uses a UV exposure box.
Laurie Archer graduated in 1959 with a BFA in Fine Arts from the Colorado College has worked in many different mediums, including the performing arts and the visual arts. She was in the original cast of Camelot on Broadway in 1960. Archer has shown her visual work extensively in New Mexico including the Palace of the Governors, Evo Gallery, Stables Gallery in Taos as well as exhibiting at the Gran Palais in Paris, the El Paso Fine Arts Museum in Texas, and the Taller Boricua Gallery in New York City. Archer is the recipient of two major awards including the Fulbright for Dance & Art in Peru (1958) and the John Hay Whitney Fellowship in NYC to continue her studies in Theater, Acting and Dancing (1959).
MARTHA CASANAVE
Martha Casanave will be exhibiting black and white gelatin silver prints from the Explorations Along an Imaginary Coastline pinhole series. This project, made between 2000 and the present, utilizes 4 x 5″ pinhole cameras to depict California’s central coast as an “imaginary coastline.” A figure, a protagonist, in 19th century attire appears in many of the images giving a persona to the environment that induces mystery and intrigue for the viewer. Casanave’s surreal approach to the coastline landscape is a refreshing take on Northern California landscape photographs. Most recently, these explorations continue as the artist submerges the camera below the water’s surface to create a horizon between underwater and above-water landscape.
Martha Casanave graduated from the Monterey Institute of International Studies with a degree in Russian Language and Literature and began her working life as a translator in Washington, DC. She engaged in photography from early childhood, however, and later came back to the Monterey Peninsula, built up a portrait clientele, and began teaching photography, while continuing to pursue her personal work. She has been an exhibiting and working photographer and educator on the Monterey Peninsula for over thirty years.
She received travel grants from the Polaroid Corporation to make a series of pinhole photographs of Leningrad in winter. She was awarded the Imogen Cunningham Photography Award for her portraiture in 1979 and also was a 1989 recipient of the Koret Israel Prize. Her book Past Lives– Photographs by Martha Casanave was published by Godine in 1991. Her second book, Beware of Dog, was released by the Center for Photographic Art in 2002. Her most recent book, Explorations Along an Imaginary Coastline, was published by Hudson Hills Press in 2006.
Casanave’s photographs are included in many major collections, including the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Stanford Museum, the Bibliotheque Nationale, the J. Paul Getty Museum , and the Graham Nash private collection. Her pinhole work has been featured in Black and White Magazine and published numerous times in Pinhole Journal. In addition, she received a cover article on her pinhole photography for Light Leaks, Low Fidelity Photography and was also published in Photography (Ukrainian edition), which included a comprehensive article on the history, science and current practice of pinhole photography.

Grand Rapids, Mich. (PRWEB) October 23, 2012
Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park is pleased to present a special, year-long exhibition showcasing revolutionary sculptor, Bernar Venet. Demonstrating his iconic work in steel, five of Venets large-scale sculptures will be installed outdoors and will open to the public on October 30th. The length and inclusion of this additional sculpture exhibition is unique to Meijer Gardens and will remain on display until October 2013.
Meijer Gardens is honored to have been selected to host this special exhibition of works by the contemporary French master, Bernar Venet, said Joseph Becherer, Vice President and Chief Curator of Horticulture and Sculpture. His works, celebrated for their bold linearity and powerful sense of grace and composition, are celebrated around the globe.
For more than five decades, improvisation has helped shape Venets art forms. Beginning with photography and mediums such as coal and tar, Venet began using steel after becoming interested in logic and mathematics. When creating his monumental steel sculptures, Venet didnt use preparatory drawings, he used intuition to shape each curve of steel to create visually captivating forms.
Venets sculptures have been shown all over the world and are included in many of the most prestigious public and private collections in Europe, America and Asia, including Two Indeterminate Lines, which is a part of Meijer Gardens permanent collection in the Sculpture Park.
The steel sculptures of Bernar Venet grace public plazas and beautiful gardens around the world including Meijer Gardens, said David Hooker, President & CEO. We are very grateful to the Bernar Venet Foundation and the Galerie Scheffel for the opportunity to present five extraordinary pieces for the next year.
Each steel sculpture, ranging in size from eight to 13 feet in height, will be installed on the front lawn, adjacent to the Leslie E. Tassell English Perennial and Bulb Garden.
Coinciding with the exhibition, the public has an opportunity to meet and hear Venet discuss his expansive career and renowned works on October 30th at 7 p.m. at the C. Schoenknecht and W. Paul Sculpture Lecture, as part of The Master Lecture Series. To attend this highly anticipated event, please RSVP to Shelley at 616-975-3144 or skilroy@meijergardens.org. This lecture is included with the cost of admission.
This exhibition is made possible by the Bernar Foundation in France and the Galerie Scheffel in Germany.

About Bernar Venet
Born in France in 1941, Bernar Venet had a religious upbringing and aspired to be a missionary. At a young age, he was introduced to painting and drawing by a local artist. When he joined the French Army in 1961, he was still struggling to find a style for his art. He was exploring with tar and coal as mediums, and later with photography. His first sculpture, Pile of Charcoal, was seen as his most famous masterpiece, which many art historians consider revolutionary to the history of sculpture. From there, his interest in logic and mathematics inspired him to create works around these concepts. Subsequently, exhibitions were curated surrounding his sculpture in Belgium, Japan, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, New Zealand as well as America. Venet has received numerous awards for his work, including the name of Chevalier de La Legion dHonneur, Frances highest honor. Currently, he divides his time between his studios in New York and France.
